Becoming a Member of the Rainbows’ Board of Directors

Thank you for your interest in joining the Rainbows for All Children Board of Directors.  The members of the Board of Directors are committed to the mission of Rainbows for All Children and they show that commitment, not only through fundraising efforts, but by donating their time to help improve Rainbows for All Children as an organization. Members of the Board of Directors whole heartedly believe that they can make a difference by helping children grieve and grow following a loss through peer support.

Why Join?

First and foremost, serving on the Board of Directors is an excellent way to have a substantial and ongoing impact on children’s’ lives. As a member of thisdedicated team of volunteer professionals, you can identify long-term goals, seek out diverse opportunities for collaboration, and brainstorm – as well as potentially implement – innovative strategies for lasting change. Serving on the Board of Directors is a meaningful way to expand your network and make new friends with people who share your passion to help grieving children overcome their loss!

Qualities of an ideal candidate:

  • A commitment to the Mission and Vision of Rainbows for All Children
  • Has the time to commit to Rainbows for All Children and the Board of Directors activities
  • Willingness to actively participate in Board activities, event development and fundraising
  • A proactive leader with strong communication skills
  • A team player with a positive attitude


Board Members are required to support Rainbows fundraising efforts, including helping with the annual fundraiser and participating on committees. The Board also has governance responsibilities—such as financial oversight. In particular, Board Members will be asked to:

  • Review and abide by the Board Member Expectations, which will be provided in writing
  • Honor the confidentiality of all internal discussions
  • Help recruit talented volunteers and Board members to further the Mission and Vision of Rainbows for All Children
  • Fundraise via the Board of Directors Give or Get policy, as outline in the Member Expectations document
  • Serve on one Rainbows for All Children Committee
  • Understand and follow the organization’s by-laws


  • Attend the mandatory Board of Directors Orientation meeting
  • To serve at least one three-year term
  • Attend a minimum of five of the six Board of Directors meetings
