About Us

Since 1983, Rainbows has supported children experiencing grief of all kinds through facilitated peer groups within their communities.

What We Do

Rainbows for All Children trains adult volunteers in community-based sites such as schools, faith-based organizations, libraries or community centers to lead age-specific support groups for children and teens, ages 3-18, who are grieving from some type of loss. These groups provide a safe environment that encourages communication while identifying, navigating and discussing difficult feelings that accompany loss.

Why We Do It

Over 68% of children living in the U.S. will experience the absence of a family member during their childhood. Children who experience the trauma and grief associated with losing a family member are at an increased risk for:

  • Learning, emotional and behavioral issues
  • Physical and mental health problems
  • Substance use disorder
  • Aggression and destructive behaviors

Who We Serve

Rainbows programs assist children and teens grieving the absence of a family member as a result of death, separation or divorce, incarceration, deportation, deployment, abandonment, significant illness or any other life-altering, traumatic event.
